The Reference 5513 is widely regarded by many collectors as the purest expression of the Rolex Submariner. Produced for nearly three decades, it remains a cornerstone of vintage horology due to its symmetrical, "no-date" dial and rugged tool-watch aesthetic.
This example, circa 1969, represents a coveted era for the 5513 as it transitions to the "matte dial" period. The dial has aged gracefully, featuring warm, cream-colored patina on the Tritium plots that perfectly matches the original hands. The stainless steel case retains its strong lines and features the iconic "bidirectional" rotating bezel with a faded "ghost" or sharp black insert.
As a non-chronometer rated movement (Cal. 1520), the 5513 offers a clean two-line dial configuration: "Submariner" and "660ft = 200m." This minimalism, combined with the domed acrylic crystal, provides a vintage warmth that modern ceramic models cannot replicate. This is a quintessential collector's piece, offering a direct link to the golden age of diving exploration.
